Run Run, Before You Goble Goble!
Did you know that Thanksgiving has become the most popular holiday for road racing in the United States? That’s a fact according to Running USA, a non-profit that tracks road race trends. For Thanksgiving day, I’ve counted over 30 of these 5K road races in New England alone! I guess few things feel better than sitting down to a delicious feast after working up a solid sweat and appetite. Cape Cod will play host to two of these trots, the Chatham Turkey Trot which has been going on since 2005 and the Provincetown 8th Annual 5K Pilgrim Trot. Here’s a little info on each race should you want to enter;
Chatham Turkey Trot: On Thursday, November 22nd registration starts at 7 a.m. and the walk / run begins at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $20 plus a bag of non-perishable grocery items, both the money and groceries are donated to the Lower Cape Outreach Council. The registration and race’s starting line will be in the parking lot behind the Chatham Orpheum Theater at the corner of Main and Stage Harbor Road. If you have questions please click here.
Provincetown Pilgrim Trot: On Thursday, November 22nd registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and the walk / run begins at 9 a.m. The race day registration fee is $30 plus a protein canned good for the Soup Kitchen in Provincetown (SKIP). The registration and staring line will be at the Sand Castle Resort at 929 Commercial Street. Money raised from this race will benefit Helping Our Women, a non-profit that provides supportive services and empowers the women of Provincetown, Truro, Welfleet and Eastham that have been diagnosed with chronic, life threatening, or disabling illnesses.
